‘Scotland’s curriculum places learners at the heart of education’ (Education Scotland)
We deliver a broad range of play experiences and learning opportunities using Curriculum for Excellence (2010). There are eight curricular areas within the curriculum which include: Health & Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy. Experiences and outcomes set out clear and concise statements about children’s learning. Practitioners use experiences and outcomes to plan children’s learning and to assess progress. Benchmarks set out clear lines of progression in Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy and across all early level curricular areas.
In our 2-3 room practitioners plan for children’s learning guided by Realising the Ambition (2020), the national practice guidance for early years in Scotland. The guidance support’s children’s social and emotional development through a series of ‘I can’ statements. Practitioners focus on how children explore and develop through schematic play.
